Music Theory with Michael George

Feel unsure or intimidated by keys, chords, or scales?

Wish you knew which scale to play and when?

Want to learn songs by ear?

Need a better sense of how to write songs?

Learn music theory fundamentals from an experienced musician and teacher. I understand how music works…but more importantly I know how to explain it in simple terms. I will teach you how to get MORE out of what you already know. By studying common patterns of music you will learn new ways to use chords, scales, and rhythms. This will help you add variety to your playing and unlock creativity. You will feel more confident learning songs by ear and jamming with other musicians.

I’ll add fundamentals of music to lesson plans based around your specific interests. Whether it’s a certain song, or style of playing, or genre of music. The student gets to decide what we will do. So in our lessons you will learn both what you WANT to know…and what you NEED to know. For more information call me today, Michael (585)237-8442.

About Michael George

Michael George Gonzalez
I have performed and studied music most of my life. In school (grades 4-12) I performed in concert bands, jazz band, marching band, and pit orchestra (trumpet). I sang in choirs, vocal jazz ensemble, and musical theater. After graduating I started to learn guitar and songwriting. I moved to Tennessee to be around more seasoned, working musicians. Spending time with established songwriters taught me a lot about my craft and the music business.

In my mid-twenties I moved out west to study music composition and jazz performance at North Seattle College. There I was bandleader of studio jazz combo (guitar/vocals), performed in the jazz orchestra (trumpet), sang in choir, and performed in theater department. I was awarded the Bill Muncie music scholarship three times.

I believe music is a life-long discipline. Since my teen years I continue to take private lessons and practice everyday. I seek out master musicians as mentors because part of understanding music requires ideas be passed on like traditions. For nearly two decades I have performed as a solo artist and in a variety of groups across many styles of music. This combination of education and experience gives me unique perspectives on music. Time spent in self-study has taught me how to connect with different student’s learning style.
