While guitar has been my primary instrument for 30 years, the ukulele is a close second. I got my first one on a whim in 2011. While planning a trip to Hawaii I chose a minimalist approach to packing. This would be the first trip ever, that left my guitar at home. Welp I lasted about 36 hours before I walked into a local music shop on the north shore of Oahu and bought this $100 ukulele.

In the years since I have been performing, writing, and teaching music for the ukulele. In addition to private students I also facilitate group music programs and workshops for ukulele.

Most recently over the summer a created a Uke Camp for the Seneca Falls Recreation department’s summer program. This week-long program introduced ukulele fundamentals to kids ages 5-12 years old.

I’ve organized a variety of group ukulele programs. From fun sing alongs, to introductory enrichment programs, to workshops and masterclasses.

A few years ago I founded a new music group to give more opportunities to explore the instrument and showcase its versatility. The Island Time String Band was conceived to play high-caliber music featuring the ukulele. The band plays music built from the rhythms of Hawaii, Brazil, and the Caribbean infused with jazz. This year we’ve been a featured performer at Geneva Jazz Fest, Keuka Arts Fest, Memorial Day Fest, and a special luau party.

The busy gig season is winding down and I finally have some time to plan and brainstorm for winter music programs and projects. It’s been a great year for ukulele. From the group ukulele programming I offered to the gigs with #IslandTimeStrings. I’m in my studio writing new music and developing some new programs.
