Michael Gonzalez

My name is Michael Gonzalez – A musician, teacher, designer, creative, and community organizer. I’m a Finger Lakes native that returned to my roots in 2014 after many years living, learning, and creating throughout North America.

MUSICIAN
I play hundreds of events each year. Both as a solo artist LoneGonzo — and with my diverse bands:  Stargroove (funk, reggae, fusion), WhorlWood (acoustic folk, Americana, roots), The Noble Rebels (rockabilly, country blues, western swing), The Gonztet (jazz, latin, swing), and SolPhi (soul, bossa nova, jazz).
I also work on private events too — weddings, parties, corporate events, ceremonies, fundraisers, festivals, and more. Anything from quaint background music up to full party band. Plus I can help with event planning, design, promotions, and technical aspects.

TEACHER
A trained composer I have taught private lessons and music workshops for all ages and abilities. I’ve also curated enrichment programs and professional development experiences for schools/universities, community organizations, and businesses. Currently providing private lessons and group workshops through Ostaga Music Co-op.

CREATIVE
I have worked on a wide range of projects as a creative professional. My diverse background and skillset make me uniquely suited to bring fresh ideas to a collaboration. Some of my past roles include: Art Director, Graphic Designer, Photographer, Web Developer, Marketing Director, Copywriter, Project Manager, Print Production, Event Planning, and more.

ORGANIZER
I’m the founder of the FLIMA Alliance – a community driven music and arts organization. And the artistic director of the Geneva Jazz Festival + Scott Lafaro celebration.

Lessons & Workshops

I’ve been teaching private music lessons A uniquely patient, positive teaching style. Ostaga Music instructors and clinicians blend traditional music teaching methods with unique insights on creativity, human behavior, and philosophy. Lessons are tailored to the individual student’s interests, goals, and learning style. This flexibility optimizes what students take away from each lesson, and more importantly, enhances what they discover on their own time between lessons. No matter the student’s skill level or experience our teachers aim to foster independence and confidence in their students. One of the most important lessons is to realize how they can teach themselves things when the instructor is not around.

Let's Work Together

In 25 years as a creative arts professional, the landscape has changed dramatically. Advances in technology and the prevalence of personal electronic devices have profoundly impacted creative fields.

With these new tools at hand – now almost anyone can create music, graphic design, photography, copywriting, illustration, web designs, advertisements, lessons, videos, and more. There are many positive aspects of this improved access. But it’s also devalues creative skills, saturates the market, and bombards us with content.

It’s more important now, to build relationships. To connect with our audience, supporters, collaborators, and partners. To build a community around the art, media, and experiences – brought to life through human creativity, ingenuity, and fellowship. Let’s have a conversation and put our minds together.
